Topo Ultraventure 4 Trail Shoe
The Ultraventure 3 quickly became my favourite shoe on the trails in the UK, Iceland and Nepal.
Perfect for mild to moderate trails and even some road.
Over the years, I have had shoes where the new version disappointed.
After being extremely happy with my Ultraventure 3, I was concerned about how changes in the Ultraventure 4 would work.
I needn't have worried; the number of changes were minimal, more about refinement than reinvention.
It remains a great shoe for long-distance trail runners, and it's comfortable to wear out of the box.
Main points that worked for me:
The Ultraventure 4 offers a foot-shaped design that allows natural toe splay without feeling sloppy.
The recycled engineered mesh improves breathability and reduces water retention
ZipFoam delivers a light, airy feel with subtle bounce. The late-stage rocker promotes efficient toe-off, especially at slower ultra paces
The Vibram outsole with 3–5 mm lugs provides grip on mild to moderate trails and even pavement, making it ideal for road-to-trail changes.
Updated heel construction and tongue stays improve overall foot security, especially for long runs.
I would also use it as a walking shoe. It's lightweight and durable, great on walks where comfort is key, and more forgiving underfoot without sacrificing protection.
